Suicidal behavior is a major public health concern worldwide and has become the second-leading cause of death among adolescents. The purposes of this study were to investigate the associations between childhood maltreatment and suicidal behavior and to test whether depressive symptoms have moderating effects on these associations. A multistage stratified cluster randomized sampling method was adopted to collect data from 21,019 high school students in Guangdong Province, China. The prevalence of suicidal ideation and suicide attempts among Chinese adolescents were 18.2% and 3.6%, respectively. Physical abuse (adjusted odds ratios (AOR) = 1.35, 95% confidence intervals (CI) = 1.32–1.38), emotional abuse (AOR = 1.26, 95% CI = 1.25–1.28), sexual abuse (AOR = 1.25, 95% CI = 1.21–1.30), physical neglect (AOR = 1.09, 95% CI = 1.08–1.11), and emotional neglect (AOR = 1.08, 95% CI = 1.08–1.09) were all associated with an increased risk of suicidal ideation, and these associations were also found for suicide attempts. According to stratification analyses, physical abuse/emotional abuse/sexual abuse had a stronger effect on suicidal ideation and suicide attempts among students without depressive symptoms than among students with depressive symptoms. Childhood maltreatment was associated with an increased risk of suicidal ideation and suicide attempts in Chinese adolescents. Depressive symptoms play a moderating role in the association between childhood maltreatment and suicidal behaviors.

Pendahuluan: Bencana alam dapat mempengaruhi kesejahteraan psikologis dan kesehatan mental orang. Jika anak tidak memiliki ketahanan yang baik, mereka akan dipengaruhi oleh peristiwa traumatis yang awalnya menunjukkan fenomena reaktif, sehingga mereka dapat melanjutkan dan mengarah pada gangguan psikologis. Tujuan penelitian yaitu menggambarkan resiliensi anak usia sekolah pasca bencana gunung kelud.Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif. Sampel dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan teknik simple random sampling. Total sampel adalah 56 responden. Variabel independen adalah resiliensi. Variabel dependen adalah bencana gunung kelud. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan kuesioner terstruktur. Data dianalisis menggunakan uji statistic chi-square.Hasil: Secara umum kemampuan resliensi anak usia sekolah pasca bencana gunung kelud di SD Negeri Penataran 02 menunjukkan kemampuan yang baik pada aspek pengendalian impuls, analisis kausal, self-efficacy, empati, dan optimis, sedangkan kemampuan yang tergolong rendah adalah regulasi emosi dan reaching out.Kesimpulan: Ketahanan dapat ditingkatkan melalui perubahan regulasi emosi, kontrol impuls, analisis kausal, self-efficacy, optimisme, empati, dan peningkatan kemampuan positif. Bagi peneliti selanjutnya, diharapkan untuk fokus pada faktor dominan yang mempengaruhi ketahanan anak.Kata Kunci: ketahanan; sekolah; anak-anak; bencana.

Introduction: Natural disasters such as earthquakes can cause substantial damage and trauma, especially to children. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of disaster experience on psychological symptoms, suicide risk, and associated factors in junior high school students 5 years after the Great East Japan Earthquake (GEJE). The hypothesis of this study was that psychological symptoms and suicide risk of junior high school students are associated with disaster experience. Methods: A cross-sectional survey consisting of questionnaires and face-to-face interviews with students at two junior high schools in Ishinomaki city, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, about psychological symptoms, disaster situations, and their current environment 5 years after the GEJE was conducted. In total, data from 264 (117 boys [44.3%] and 147 girls [55.7%]) students were analyzed. Results: There were no associations between disaster experience and PTSSC-15, DSRS-C, and SCAS scores. Those with evacuation experience and still living in temporary housing had significantly higher scores on the oppositional defiant behavior inventory (ODBI). Of these students, 29 (11.0%) were considered to have suicide risk 5 years after the GEJE. The presence of depressive symptoms was the only factor related to suicide risk; no associations were found with sex, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms, or other factors reported in previous studies, including disaster experience. Conclusions: Disaster experience was not associated with psychological symptoms (PTSD, depression, anxiety) and suicide risk in junior high school students 5 years after the GEJE. The suicide risk appears to be the same as that in the general population in Japan. However, attention should be paid to externalization problems and depressive symptoms, an important suicide risk factor, even 5 years after the GEJE.
