“…Of the 38 controls only 13 showed sucrosuria after a loading dose. This figure is in accord with the findings of Haworth (1960). He reports that five out of 13 healthy babies and five out of 16 older children showed sucrosuria following the administration of a test dose.…”

“…This was confirmed by Le Goff (1911) who administered 100 g. sugar to adults, all of whom developed temporary sucrosuria. Sucrosuria has been reported in children both in health as well as in those suffering from gastro-intestinal disturbances (Lahdensuu, 1947;Reuss, 1910;Owen and Lewis, 1956;Haworth, 1960). Sucrosuria has always been assumed to be secondary to the intake of sucrose with the exception of the cases reported by Elmer, Krasowska and Ptaszek (1939) and by Hoesch (1934).…”

“…The studies by Haworth and McCredie [2], Woolf and Norman [3], and Haworth [4] demonstrated qualitatively that urine contained lactose fol lowing the ingestion of the disaccharide. However, there was no controlled quantita tive assessment of lactose excretion.…”

“…Although several types of direct measurement have been applied to zones separated by paper (PC) and thin Apparatus and materials layer chromatography (TLC) (Franglen, 1968), these techniques have not been regarded as sufficiently MATERIALS reliable (Bark, 1969) to justify the labour of sophisticated densitometry. Quantitative elution techniques are well established, but the preference shown by most authors for methods based on direct visual comparison of 'test' with 'standard' zones developed on the same chromatogram, which are at best semiquantitative (Owen and Lewis, 1956;Apthorp, 1957;Woodruff, 1958;Haworth, 1960;Bickel, 1961;Solvents Gryboski et al, 1963;Clarke et al, 1964;Launiala Ethyl acetate, pyridine, glacial acetic acid, and et al, 1964;Arthur et al, 1966) (Menzies and Mount, 1975), to examine the purity of all sugar preparations before selecting them for standards or internal markers.…”
