“…Increase of elastolysis has been reported in an animal model of atherosclerosis induced by EDP. 3,5,6,[21][22][23][24][25][26][27] We observed a significant increase in serum elastolytic activity induced by a cholesterolrich diet, lasting for the entire experiment. Lower doses of captopril and both doses of enalapril and quinapril had no significant effect on this increased elastolytic activity.…”

“…Other drugs influencing elastolytic activity in experimental atherosclerosis are as follows: calcium channel blockers (nifedipine) and non-selective calcium antagonists: trifluoperazine, fendiline and calcitonin. [27][28][29] We showed that, in cholesterol-fed rabbits and in groups receiving lower doses of tested ACE-I, the serum and aortic thiobarbituric acid reactive species (TBARS) concentrations after six months of experiment were significantly higher than control. The higher dose of captopril (25 mg/kg/day) prevented the cholesterol-induced rise in TBARS concentration.…”

“…This sequence binds to the elastin receptor and exerts numerous biological effects (11). An experimental study undertaken in our Department has revealed that rabbits receiving EDP injections develop atherosclerosis (12). In addition, disturbances in elastin metabolism, leading to increased serum levels of EDPs, are considered as one of the risk factors of atherosclerosis.…”

“…Edps stimulate the synthesis and release of metalloproteases. in experimental studies, rabbits receiving injections of EDPs developed atherosclerosis (11). Studies indicate that disturbances of elastin metabolism leading to increased serum levels of Edps are one of the risk factors of atherosclerosis.…”
