Successful treatment of verrucous epidermal nevus with fractional micro-plasma radio-frequency technology and photodynamic therapy

Abstract: Verrucous epidermal nevus (VEN) is a skin disorder that commonly presents at birth; it is characterized by skin-colored to brown verrucous papules in a linear distribution following Blaschko's lines. Even though it is extremely rare, VEN has been associated with malignant transformation. VEN has been treated by different treatment modalities with varying and frustrating results. We introduce a new type of treatment. The fractional micro-plasma radio-frequency (RF) technology, which uses unipolar RF technology … Show more

“…We have also reported the administration of ALA-PDT in treating VEN. 11 It is well known that the penetration of photosensitizers in lesions is less than 1 mm. 18 Considering that the thickened lesions of VEN were not conducive to absorbing photosensitizers, we pretreated lesions with fractional micro-plasma RF before performing ALA-PDT.…”

“…Recently, plasma radiofrequency ablation has been used to remove various nevi in different parts of the body such as skin and around the eye and its safety has been discovered (33,34). Based on our previous studies on the PANIS method and its e cacy, it has shown that this method can be a minimally invasive technique for various ocular surface disorders (10)(11)(12)(13)(14)(15).…”
