Successful Treatment of Plasma Cell-Rich Acute Rejection Using Pulse Steroid Therapy Alone: A Case Report

Abstract: Despite the recent development of immunosuppressive agents, plasma cell-rich acute rejection (PCAR) has remained refractory to treatment. Herein, we report an unusual case of PCAR that responded well to pulse steroid therapy alone. A 47-year-old man was admitted for a protocol biopsy three months after kidney transplantation, with a stable serum creatinine level of 1.6 mg/dL. “…Cr levels at onset of PCAR were lower in the present study than in the previous reports, and four of the six subjects in the present study were diagnosed incidentally from protocol biopsies (Table ). Therapeutic intervention may therefore have been early in the present study, and thus might have contributed to the long‐term graft survival of PCAR patients . No symptoms specifically associated with PCAR and no specific findings in blood or urine tests were seen.…”
