Successful renal transplantation to a recipient with type II cryoglobulinemia: a case report

Abstract: BackgroundRecurrence of glomerulonephritis is an important risk factor for renal graft dysfunction. Cryoglobulinemia is known as a relatively rare cause of renal failure, and doctors are usually hesitant to perform transplantation on a recipient with cryoglobulinemia because of the risk for graft loss. We present a case of renal transplantation on a patient with organ manifestations of type II cryoglobulinemia.Case presentationAt the age of 44 years, the patient developed acute kidney injury and purpura on the… Show more

“…Although common among kidney transplant recipients (70%), the presence of serum cryoglobulins does not affect graft outcomes [47]. On the other hand, all patients with cryoglobulinaemia-associated glomerulonephritis seem to develop disease recurrence; this, however, does not preclude kidney transplantation [48][49][50]. A case report of cryoglobulinaemia causing graft dysfunction two months following kidney transplantation has been described in a patient with pSS [51].…”
