Successful Pregnancy Outcome after Open Strassman Metroplasty for Bicornuate Uterus

Abstract: Introduction Müllerian duct anomalies represent a group of congenital malformations that result from failure to complete bilateral paramesonephric duct elongation, fusion, canalization, or septal resorption. These anomalies are rare in the general population with a bicornuate or didelphys uterus being among the common ones. Bicornuate uterine malformations are of clinical significance due to their adverse reproductive outcomes. Metroplasty has been shown to improve reproductive outcomes of bicornuate uterine m… Show more

“…A fundal uterine incision is done, followed by dissection layer by layer until reaching the endometrium and then apposition of the two uterine horns followed by uterine suturing in layers. [ 36 ] Nabeshima et al . reported the case of laparoscopic Strassman procedure in a 12-year-old girl diagnosed with incomplete OHVIRA syndrome, with the absence of hemivaginal septum.…”

“…In 1907, Paul Strassman first described the surgical correction of the double uterus; since then, the Strassman metroplasty has stood out as the standard procedure for the correction of the bicornuate uterus, showing a success rate for conception, reaching term gestation of up to 70-80% after the procedure; in addition to the improvement of the painful symptoms referred by the patients 9 , for which continuing to innovate in less radical procedures can be the future advance in the area of microsurgery in Gynecology.…”
