Successful embolization of a renal artery aneurysm with preservation of renal blood flow

Abstract: A 76-year-old man with renal artery aneurysm was successfully treated by transcatheter embolization with complete preservation of renal blood flow. Embolization was performed with detachable platinum coils. Two months later, follow-up angiography showed completely packed aneurysm and preserved blood flow of the branch. It may be reasonable to consider that embolization of the aneurysm is the primary treatment modality for some of the patients with renal artery aneurysm.

“…[27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34] These reports have described two general approaches-transcatheter embolization and endovascular grafting. In one of the largest experiences using embolization, Klein et al 27 treated 12 RAAs with microcoils.…”

“…However, this phenomenon is difficult to explain. [3][4][5]7,9,12 In our series, successful embolization was performed in four cases. In the follow-up (mean 11 months), complete exclusion of the lesions in all cases was confirmed in Doppler duplex and spiral CT.…”

“…In recent years, a wide range of therapeutic options has been reported, including surgical resection, transcatheter arterial embolization and stent-graft deployment. [1][2][3][4][5][6][7] Case 1: A 40-year-old female was admitted with a history of blurred vision, severe headaches and severe hypertension. Fundoscopy demonstrated bilateral papilloedema, haemorrhages and hard exudates.…”

“…Several authors report cases with successful interventional radiological treatment of symptomatic renal artery aneurysms with preservation of renal blood flow by coil embolization or percutaneous placement of stent grafts [8, 9]. Tarif et al [4]report a case of life-threatening hematuria from AV fistula, which was sealed successfully by superselective arterial embolization.…”
