Success Rate of Incorporating Corneal Refractive Therapy into 3 Different Ophthalmology Practices

Abstract: Orthokeratology is an effective method to correct myopia. Only 1.4% of patients were unresponsive to the correction. There is no difference in the effectiveness of orthokeratology in the right and left eyes, but it does seem to be more effective in women compared with men.

“…In addition to analyzing the entire sample of 30 participants, a subcohort was established to include only participants who achieved high-contrast logMAR acuity of +0.30 (20/40 Snellen equivalent) or better in each eye with both lens treatments. This is a commonly used cutoff to measure visual acuity success in orthokeratology 22 and refractive surgery. 23 The good vision subcohort allows for comparisons to be made with our published aberration outcomes 12 and is indicative of what would happen in a clinical setting, given that practitioners would often re-fit lenses if the vision was not satisfactory.…”

“…High contrast visual acuity was measured at 100% contrast with the M&S Smart System (M&S Technologies, mstech‐eyes.com). Visual acuity of 0.30 logMAR was chosen as it is a common cutoff criterion for studies of refractive error, specifically after orthokeratology 34 and refractive surgery 35 …”

“…† Higher order aberrations (HOA) for Lopes-Ferreira show an increase by the listed amount, whereas all others show an increase in HOA to that amount.acuity was measured at 100% contrast with the M&S Smart System (M&S Technologies, mstech-eyes.com). Visual acuity of 0.30 logMAR was chosen as it is a common cutoff criterion for studies of refractive error, specifically after orthokeratology34 and refractive surgery 35.
