Success rate and safety of catheter ablation in preexcitation syndrome: A comparison between adult and pediatric patients

Abstract: Background: In contrast to adults, in whom cardiac rhythm disorders are mainly conditioned by coronary artery disease, in children, arrhythmias are most often associated with inherited heart disorders. Catheter ablation (CA) has an important role in the management of cardiac arrhythmias, in adults and children. The aim of the study was to assess and compare the efficacy and safety of CA in children and adults with preexcitation syndrome. Methods: The study population comprised 43 adults and 43 children diagnos… Show more

“…The overall mean time of the Fluoro procedure is 17.63 min, based on the findings from the 13 studies which included it, compared to 5.9 ± 5.8 min in catheter ablation patients 27 . The proportion of successful PVI during the ablation was 100% according to the data included in 12 studies, compared to a 93% success rate with catheter ablation 27 . In addition, PVI through catheter ablation for persistent atrial fibrillation is approximately 43% 28…”

“…devido à síndrome de WPW, teve um problema relacionado à válvula mitral decorrente da passagem do cateter, fato que exigiu uma cirurgia de coração aberto para corrigi-la 90 . Mesmo assim, a taxa de sucesso gerada por essa cirurgia supera à do tratamento medicamentoso e os pacientes têm maior probabilidade de recuperação 91 .…”

“…While this method is very common and common, there are also risks to people being treated with this surgery; For example, in a study, a person who had this operation due to wpw syndrome had a problem with the mitral valve due to the catheter passing through it, and doctors had to perform an open-heart operation to fix it [13]. However, the success rate of this operation is still higher than drug treatment and patients are more likely to recover [14].…”
