“…Larger P300 amplitude was found for compatible stimuli as compared to incompatible and unrelated stimuli. These behavioral and ERP findings are analogous to those reported previously (Pfefferbaum et al, 1986;Renault et al, 1988;Christensen et al, 1996;Bauer and Hesselbrock, 1999b).…”

“…These findings are important, as alcohol problems don't typically occur in isolation (Kessler et al, 1997;Robins & Regier, 1991;Sher & Trull, 1994), and cocaine is another widely-used substance. Combined with the extant literature, the present results support the view that P3AR is not highly specific, and instead appears to relate to a very broad array of problem behaviors and psychopathology, including conduct disorder (Bauer & Hesselbrock, 1999;Patrick et al, 2006), adult antisocial behavior (Patrick et al, 2006), depression (Diner et al, 1985;Singh et al, 2000), and anxiety (Bauer et al, 2001;Xu et al, 2014), as well as latent internalizing and externalizing behaviors representing comorbidities among problem behaviors (Bernat et al, 2020;Patrick et al, 2006). We thus expected to see P3AR across most different kinds of substance use.…”

“…This could mean that children with conduct disorder care less about their mistakes than both ADHD and comparison subjects, which would be in line with evidence that conduct disorder/oppositional defiance disorder children are undermotivated and respond less to negative feedback than comparison subjects (35,36). The interpretation of the cingular-parietal-temporal underactivations as a reduced recruitment of attention allocation networks are also in line with EEG studies that found abnormal temporal-parietal activation in children with conduct disorder in relation to comparison subjects during sustained (16) and selective attention tasks (17). The right temporal dysfunction is interesting with respect to the documented relationship between the temporal lobes and aggression (37) and structural findings of smaller temporal volumes in patients with conduct dis- the right side of the brain.…”
