Substrate integrated waveguide monopolar ring-slot antenna

Abstract: A single‐layer substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) monopolar ring‐slot antenna is proposed in this letter. It is based on a combination of a circular ring‐slot etched in the SIW top wall and a set of shorting vias placed concentrically between the area bounded by the ring and the SIW bottom wall. Thanks to this configuration, a monopole‐like radiation pattern is obtained. The antenna is designed for the 5.8 ISM frequency band, parametrically studied and experimentally verified in free space and in the vicinit… Show more

“…In practical applications, vertical monopoles can be replaced by equivalent magnetic loops to obtain a fully planar structure. 23 In the described constellation, the transmission between antennas is dominantly carried out by the surface wave (the Norton one) propagating along the interface between the human body and environment. The transmission is dominantly influenced by the operation frequency, parameters and position of antennas, and parameters of the body.…”

“…Due to the formation of the cavity, SIW antenna offers low leakage loss compared to microstrip antennas . Several single‐band SIW antennas are widely reported in the literature . However, the number of reported work on SIW based multiband antennas are not much in the literature to the best of the authors’ knowledge.…”

other SIW based dual-band antenna reported in the literature [1], [8][9][10][11][12]. The peak realized gains at three resonant frequencies are 5.23 dBi, 6.53 dBi and 7.41 dBi respectively. The measured normalized two-dimensional radiation pattern of the proposed antenna also matches well with the simulated radiation pattern (Fig.
