“…As expected from the results of previous studies showing that early experiences in childhood affect personality traits (6,8,9,20,(46)(47)(48)(49)(50)(51), parental care in childhood increased resilience and parental overprotection decreased it in this study. Consistent with our results, Lind et al reported the same findings, and also demonstrated that the interaction of childhood sexual abuse with high parental authoritarianism affected resilience (17).…”

“…Our results replicated the results of Lind et al and further demonstrated that resilience mediated the effect of perceived parental bonding on work stress. Such a mediating effect of resilience has never been reported to date, but it is plausible considering that resilience is a type of positive personality trait; mediating effects between early experiences and life events or psychopathological symptoms have been shown for various personality traits (6,8,9,(48)(49)(50)(51). A previous systematic review showed that amenable resilience-enhancing factors moderate and/or mediate the association between childhood adversity and mental health in young people (16).…”

“…However, a previous study reported that the effect of SSS on subjective health is mediated by self-esteem and neuroticism,37 consistent with some of the results regarding the 4 significant indirect effects in this study. Furthermore, our recent study reported the similar findings that SSS is a mediator in the effects of the quality of parenting in childhood on adulthood depressive symptoms and self-esteem, and that self-esteem further mediates the effects of SSS 24. The results demonstrating that childhood abuse significantly reduces SSS, and lower SSS worsens affective temperament and depressive symptoms, are important points for considering the psychopathology of childhood abuse and depression.…”

“…Although there has been no research on the association of SSS with childhood abuse, OSS was shown to be associated with childhood abuse and to also affect the general health, mental health, and well-being of adults 23. We recently reported that the quality of parenting that a subject received as a child, which includes neglect, affects SSS 24. SSS is also associated with affective temperament (our unpublished data).…”

“…Moreover, impaired bonding with parents has long-term consequences. Some studies reported that impaired parental bonding was associated with psychiatric symptoms such as depression and anxiety in adulthood [12][13][14][15][16].…”
