Subjective health complaints predict functional outcome six months after stroke

Abstract: ObjectivesCerebrovascular stroke is a main cause of lasting disability in older age, and initial stroke severity has been established as a main determinant for the degree of functional loss. In this study, we searched for other predictors of functional outcome in a cohort of stroke patients participating in an early supported discharge randomised controlled trial.MethodsThirty candidate variables related either to premorbid history or to the acute stroke were examined by ordered logistic regression in 229 stro… Show more

“…In Di Moncaco et al (2010) studies 90% of patients experienced improvement in day-to-day activities (self-service and independence) as measured by Barthel index. The importance of early, comprehensive, post-stroke rehabilitation was previously also noted by other researchers (Hosfstad et al, 2017). This fat was also clearly underlined in Bernhardt et.…”

“…19,20 Other associated factors influencing ADL recovery are the initial stroke severity 21 and history of previous stroke. 20,22 A few studies showed comorbidities like diabetes and hypertension had no effect on ADL after a stroke. [23][24][25] Diabetes can stimulate vascular tone reconstruction while a high blood pressure produces a neuroprotective effect that can restrict the extension of brain infarction.…”
