Subcontractor selection with additive ratio assessment method

Abstract: During the last decades, especially in large-scale construction projects, it is one of the widely applied strategies that the main contractors work with many subcontractors and overtake a large part of the works. This trend brings out the problem of selection of subcontractors. The classical approaches in the construction industry to select the subcontractor are the general practice reference, the lowest bid, and the familiarity. “…Therefore for the ARAS method can be said, although is newlydeveloped method, that ARAS method is very effective and easy to use when it comes to solving MCDM problems. Until now ARAS method has been applied in numerous cases to solve various decision-making problems, such as: subcontractor selection [12], personnel selection [13][14][15], ranking of companies according to the indicators of corporate social responsibility [16], oil and gas well drilling projects evaluation [17], sustainable building assessment/certification [18] and so on.…”

“…Shivam and Khasiyani [16] developed a conceptual model for SC selection in different construction projects by proposing an integrated decision approach that uses the relative importance index (RII) for the SC selection issue and PROMETHEE. Koçak et al [17] have adopted an approach to create a new alternative to SC selection with the Additive Ratio Assessment Method, which is one of the multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) techniques that can be more scientific, instead of traditional practices in the construction industry. Palha et al [18] have developed a method for pre-tender selection based on a real case study that provides insight into the activities of SCs.…”
