Subclinical hypothyroidism and associated cardiovascular risk factor in perimenopausal females

Abstract: Background: Perimenopause refers to the period around menopause (40-55 years). This includes the period before menopause and the first year after menopause. Perimenopausal age is an important stage in a women’s life. Many women are diagnosed with hypothyroidism at midlife. “…Lipid changes are generally similar to overt hypothyroidism in subclinical hypothyroidism. 10 , 11 The relationship of overt and subclinical hypothyroidism to dyslipidemia and atherosclerosis has now been more clearly demonstrated, while the relationship of thyroid autoimmunity to dyslipidemia has been less proven. Our aim in this study was to determine whether there is a risk of dyslipidemia in our patients with euthyroid hashimoto thyroiditis.…”

“…The TH activity is able to influence the lipid levels through a genetic control or via increasing catabolism of LDL. High TSH values also correlates with hypercholesterolemia independently, and SCH condition seems frequently observed in hypercholesterolemic patients ( 61 ). The evaluation of total cholesterol concentrations carried out in the present study, as well revealed a significant improvement of its levels after 6 months of administration of myo-Ins and Se, thus indicating an efficacy of the treatment in the balancing of the lipidic species.…”
