“…Despite this, the optimal treatment of SCS due to AIMAH has not been established. Recently, with the wider use of imaging techniques, several cases of SCS due to AIMAH have been reported . In patients with SCS caused by AIMAH, adrenal nodules were found incidentally, and their autonomous cortisol secretion was not sufficiently abnormal to cause overt CS.…”

“…Traditionally, bilateral adrenalectomy by either an overt or laparoscopic approach has been the most useful treatment for patients with AIMAH, although patients are obliged to receive lifetime steroid replacement after the procedure, and subsequently, are susceptible to adrenal insufficiency crisis . In patients with SCS caused by AIMAH, adrenal nodules are generally found incidentally, and their autonomous cortisol secretion is not sufficiently abnormal to cause overt Cushing's syndrome (CS) . Because the amount of cortisol produced by these nodules is not that excessive, we believe that a unilateral adrenalectomy might be sufficient to achieve a reduction in the secretory tissue, especially for SCS due to AIMAH.…”
