Studying of the interaction between peat humic acids and metazachlor using spectroscopy methods

Abstract: Purpose The analysis covered the interaction of humic acids (HA) isolated from peats with the metazachlor using spectroscopic methods. Materials and methods Five peatlands have been selected for the study in the southern and northern parts of Poland. Extraction of humic acids (HA1, HA2, HA3, HA4, and HA5) was performed using a procedure recommended by the International Humic Substances Society. Metazachlor 500 SC with metazachlor as a biologically active substance [2-chloro-N-(pyrazol-1-ylmethyl)acet-2′,6′-xyl… Show more

“…Soil organic matter (SOM) is a significant factor affecting the behavior of organic contaminants in soils [9,11,12,[17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24]. According to Pignatello [19], the mechanism of PAH sorption to organic matter can be caused by van der Waals attraction, hydrophobic bonding, hydrogen interactions, charge transfer, intermolecular forces, or ligand exchange.…”

“…Soil organic matter consists of a diversity of components with various molecular weights, functional groups and polarities, which control the dynamics of contaminants in the soil through hydrophobic interactions, electrostatic interactions or the formation of chemical bonds (Pignatello 2011;Pignatello 2012;Chen et al 2017;Bejger et al 2018;Ukalska-Jaruga et al 2018). According to Pignatello (2011Pignatello ( , 2012, the main components of SOM are humic substances (HS) and black carbon (BC), and based on their molecular structure, they may significantly impact PAH concentration.…”

“…From a chemical point of view, HS are heteropolycondensates or complex polyanions ( Stevenson, 1994 ). However, from a physical point of view, they are polydisperse substances ( Matuszak-Slamani et al, 2017 ; Bejger et al, 2018 ; Ukalska-Jaruga, Debaene & Smreczak, 2018 ), with a wide range of molecular structure sizes. The HS have a range of specific chemical and physical properties, such as: a high sorption capacity ( Ukalska-Jaruga et al, 2015 ; Ćwieląg-Piasecka et al, 2018 ), and high energy absorption in the whole spectrum range, especially in the UV and IR radiation ranges of the electromagnetic spectrum ( Fooken & Liebezeit, 2003 ; Gołębiowska et al, 2005 ; Mielnik & Kowalczuk, 2018 ; Rodríguez, Schlenger & García-valverde, 2016 ; Shin, Monsallier & Choppin, 1999 ).…”
