Studying Labor Governments in the Australian States: Theory and Method

Abstract: This paper explores approaches to the study of Labor governments, and the impact of party more generally, at the state level in Australia. To do so it reviews the literature on the study of state governments; outlines the main questions to be asked; summarises the range of perspectives that have been brought to bear on those questions; discusses the methods that might be used; and reviews the achievements of key relevant studies.
