Study on UV-protection and hydrophobic properties of cotton fabric functionalized by graphene oxide and silane coupling agent

Abstract: Purpose This study aims to prepare UV protection and hydrophobic fabric through modifying cotton fabric by graphene oxide and silane coupling agent. The graphene oxide and silane coupling agent (KH570) are anchored on the cotton fabric by a stable chemical bond. Design/methodology/approach Graphene oxide was prepared by modified Hummers method. The fabric sample was treated with graphene oxide and silane coupling agent KH570 using simple dipping-padding-drying method. The effects of the dosage of graphene ox… Show more

“…That does not differ from practical data known from works [3,4], whose authors, by the way, also associate the resistance to washing with the formation of compounds resistant to washing in the formulations. However, unlike the results reported in [3,4], our data on the effect of the hydrophobic coating and complex flame retardant on the process of inhibiting the mass transfer of water, allow us to state the following:…”

“…Work [4] shows protection against ultraviolet radiation and the hydrophobic protection of fabric by modifying cotton fabric with graphene oxide and silane binding agent through immersion-laying-drying. As a result, the cotton fabric was successfully modified with graphene oxide and silane agent and, compared to untreated fabric, the surface of the fabric was smooth and there were no gaps on the fiber.…”

“…Using silane coupling agents is another effective method. Silane coupling agents can improve the properties of composites by combining inorganic materials with polymer materials through physical and/or chemical interactions [ 37 , 38 ]. Despite the fact that silane coupling agents can help to connect GO with epoxy, the agglomeration and stacking of GO still remain big problems.…”
