Study on Ultrasonic Vibration Assisted Grinding in Theory

Abstract: In ultrasonic vibration assisted grinding (UAG) along the axial direction, the machining process of an abrasive grit is introduced in this paper. During the internal UAG, the critical speed is determined by the amplitude and frequency of ultrasonic vibration. During the surface UAG, the cutting model of an abrasive grit is established and the cutting trace length of an abrasive grit and the grinding force making chips deformation is analyzed in theory. The analysis results show that the cutting trace length is… Show more

“…Ultrasonic vibration-assisted grinding involves applying ultrasonic vibration to the grinding tool or workpiece in the conventional grinding process. The vibration parameters are generally amplitude of 4-25um and frequency of 16-25 kHz (Zhang et al, 2006;Yang et al, 2020;Chen et al, 2021). The vibration direction can be tangential, radial, or axial.…”

“…Fig. 1 The motion model of axial ultrasonic vibration assisted grinding [2] As shown in Fig. 1, there arethree kinds of grain motion such as grinding wheel rotational circular motion, grinding wheel feed movement and the simple harmonic oscillation.Based on the UAG kinematics analysis, establish the single abrasive grain trajectory model.…”

“…UAGis a special machining method for difficult machining metal material.Diamond tools rotate with a high speed while in the state of ultrasonic vibration, and grinding in the forms of constant feed. The high-frequency vibration of the grinding tool increases the material removal rate and improves the machining accuracy.UAG reduces the cutting force and lengthen the grinding tool's life [1][2][3]. UAG processing does not produce work hardening, does not change the physical and chemical properties of the workpiece [4,5].…”

“…Recent improvements in ceramic processing that have resulted in improved material reliability, combined with increased demand for higher performance components in many applications, have created a renewed interest in silicon nitride ceramics [1,2]. Superfine grained Si 3 N 4 -based ceramics are good superplasticity, good wearing resistance and high flexural strength, which make them have an extensive application foreground on structure engineering [3,4,5]. A number of studies have been initiated in recent years that examine the tribological and wear performance of usual silicon nitride materials with several micrometer grain size in a variety of wear environments.…”
