Study on transient heat transfer through multilayer thermal insulation: Numerical analysis and experimental investigation

Abstract: This paper reports on a numerical and experimental study of heat transfer phenomena through two different multilayer fibrous insulations for building applications. The investigated samples were composed of different layers of fibrous materials and aluminium foils, placed between one or two air gaps in the vertical dimension. An experimental apparatus (a guarded hot box) has been used to measure heat transfer through the samples, while a finite volume numerical model combined radiation/conduction heat transfer … Show more

“…Some non-conventional insulation materials that show low environmental impact can also be found in literature. Mavromatidis et al [183] experimentally evaluated the thermal behavior of two different multilayer fibrous insulations for building applications. A GHB apparatus was used to measure the heat transfer through the samples.…”

“…The hot-disk technique is a transient plane source measurement method, developed by Gustafsson and co-worker [32,33] in the early 1990s and is now widely used for the determination of the thermophysical properties of building materials [34][35][36][37]. In this study, the experiments are performed with the patented Hot Disk TPS 1500 Thermal Constants Analyzer test system.…”
