Study on The Potency of Methanol Extracts From Xanthosoma nigrum Stellfeld As Natural Anti Oxidant by Thiobarbituric Acid Method

Abstract: In this research Xanthosoma nigrum Stellfeld (the Purple yam) was selected as experimental material. This plant was collected from Rejang Lebong region, Bengkulu Province. Methanol extract 96% from stem of purple yam was studied its anti-oxidant activity in various concentrations with α-tocopherol (200 ppm) as standard of antioxidant. Antioxidant activity was determined using Thiobarbituric Acid (TBA) method. Linoleic acid was oxidized at 40 ºC for seven days with or without extract and the final product malon… Show more

“…The standard curve that has been determined becomes a reference for the linear equation for the determination of linoleic acid incubation and the MDA test from sweet potato leaf samples. The diene conjugation method for determining the incubation time of linoleic acid was carried out before testing the antioxidant activity of the samples by measuring the hydroperoxides which were measured every day to obtain the maximum absorbance value (Ratnawati et al, 2013). Linoleic acid incubation was carried out from day 0 to day 10 with the result that on day 6 the maximum absorbance value was obtained which then decreased on day 7.…”

“…The constant practice of using antibiotics can lead to the advance of antibiotic-resistant pathogens; the presence of these chemicals, left as residues in the fish, is dangerous for human consumption also causing harmful bioaccumulation impacts (Hidayat et al 2018). Recently, herbal immunostimulants such as organic compounds from plants have been commonly used as an antibacterial and immunostimulant to control fish diseases (Cuesta et al 2004;Ratnawati et al 2013;Karina et al 2015;Hardi et al 2016a;Karina et al 2016).…”
