Study on the Long-term Settlement of Subway Tunnel in Soft Soil Area

Abstract: The long-term settlement of a subway tunnel, especially the differential settlement affects the safe operation of the subway. In this article, the settlement of a subway tunnel was studied from the theoretical and numerical analyses based on the monitoring data. According to the monitoring data, the deformation of segments at different locations is different, and the deformation around a channel is larger than other places. The settlements of tunnel calculated by two theoretical methods are consistent with tha… Show more

“…Some studies have been carried out to investigate the possible causes of large tunnel settlements for the Shanghai metro tunnels (Yu et al 1986;Wang et al 2008). The settlement of a subway tunnel was studied from the theoretical and numerical analyses based on the monitoring data (Tan, Cui, and Yuan 2015). The influence of stiffness anisotropy has been illustrated by many researchers when predicting ground deformations due to the tunnelling (Lee and Rowe 1989;Franzius, Potts, and Burland 2005) and the excavation (Ng, Lee, and Tang 2004;Clayton 2011).…”

“…Huang et al [11] used finite element simulation software, through the soil-water full coupling dynamic finite element method, to analyze the settlement of saturated clay soil under trainload. Tan et al [12] conducted a monitoring study on the deformation of subway tunnels and found that there is variability in the amount of settlement in different areas. Di et al [13] conducted a study on the long-term settlement of Nanjing Metro Line 10 and found that the maximum settlement of Metro Line 10 was 240 mm within 5.75 years of completion.…”

“…The second method (Liu et al 2014) is to obtain the development trend of settlement and deformation based on the existing measured data, and to use appropriate mathematical model to predict the development of settlement after that. Tan et al (2016) studied the settlement of a subway tunnel from the theoretical and numerical analyses based on the monitoring data. Ahangari et al (2015) had applied modern intelligent methods to predict subway settlement.…”
