Study on the Impact of Offshore Wind Farms on Surrounding Water Environment in the Yangtze Estuary Based on Remote Sensing

Lina Cai,
Qunfei Hu,
Zhongfeng Qiu
et al.

Abstract: Offshore wind farms (OWFs), built extensively in recent years, induce changes in the surrounding water environment. The changes in the suspended sediment concentration (SSC) and chlorophyll-a concentration (Chl-aC) induced by an OWF in the Yangtze River Estuary were analyzed based on Chinese Gaofen (GF) satellite data. The results show the following: (1) The flow near the wind turbines makes the bottom water surge, driving the sediment to “re-suspend” and be lost, deepening the scour pit around the bottom of t… Show more

“…Zhoushan Archipelago, located in the southeast coast of China, is in the northern part of Zhejiang Province in the East China Sea. It is situated north of the outer edge of the Yangtze River estuary, west of Hangzhou Bay, connected to the Lishan Islands, which open up the Yangtze River Delta and the Yangtze River basin open to the outside world, the sea gateway [43]. Zhoushan Archipelago is the largest archipelago in China, covering a total area of 22,200 km 2 , which includes 1400 km 2 land area and 20,800 km 2 sea area.…”
