Study on the feasibility of coupling large‐volume injection to fast gas chromatography with mass spectrometric detection for analysis of organochlorine pesticides

Abstract: Study on the feasibility of coupling large-volume injection to fast gas chromatography with mass spectrometric detection for analysis of organochlorine pesticides A combined use of programmable temperature vaporisation injector, fast oven temperature ramp, 0.1 mm ID analytical column and hydrogen carrier gas enabled injection of up to 20 lL of extract containing 15 organochlorine pesticides and separation of all analytes in less than 8 minutes.

“…The use of other solvents, such as ethyl acetate or acetone as extractants, has been tested (Lehotay et al 2010;Cunha et al 2007), but MeCN still remains as the priority solvent for the 4 QuEChERS procedure. The combination of MeCN as extractant combined with PTV injection has allowed reaching low limits of determination when combined with fast GC techniques (Hada et al 2000;Hercegová et al 2005;Korenková et al 2003).…”

Pesticides according to their structure and functional groups are classified to several groups including organochlorine , organophosphorous , triazole , triazine , and acidic pesticides (APs) . APs are mainly applied to control wide range of weeds and fungal pathogens in agriculture.…”

“…Injection volumes searched up to 8 lL do not provide any peak distortion. However, PTV injector provides the best protection against effects of coextracted components [6], and operating in solvent vent mode allows even larger sample volume introduction resulting in excellent LOQs [10,11].…”
