Study on Solvent Deasphalting Process for Upgrading of Hydrocracking Unconverted Oil

Abstract: Ebullating bed hydrocracking (EBH) and solvent deasphalting (SDA) process are effective pretreatment upgrading technologies for vacuum residuum (VR). In this work, the SDA performance of EBH unconverted oil (UCO) was investigated and the optimum process conditions were found to obtain the right balance between the maximum yield and the best properties of deasphalted oil (DAO). The test results showed that the change in operating conditions had a more significant impact on mass balance than on product quality i… Show more

“…Deasphalted oil (DAO) is the heavy oil fraction that remains after the separation of asphaltenes has been completed 8 . DAO quality is affected by several SDA process parameters, including the type of solvent used, the solvent to oil ratio, the time allowed to precipitate, and the temperature and pressure used 9 . Solvent de-asphalting (SDA) is regarded as a suitable solution to the issue of excessive energy usage.…”

“…The common solvents used in SDA are propane, isobutane, pentane, n-butane, hexane, and heptane [10,11]. Boffelli et al [12] investigated the efficiency of n-heptane for deasphalting heavy crude oil using a 5:1 solvent to oil ratio (v/v) at 60 °C.…”
