Study on Post Liver Transplant Diabetes Mellitus (PLTDM): Pathogenesis and Risk Factors

Abstract: Post-liver transplantation Diabetes Mellitus (DM) or PLTDM, affects 30 % of liver transplant patients and is linked to an elevated risk of death & a variety of adverse consequences. PLTDM is a multi-cause disease, however, the use of immunosuppressive drugs from the calcineurin inhibitor (CNI) family is the primary risk factor (tacrolimus and cyclosporine).
