Plunging jets are popular for aeration in wastewater treatment plants due to low energy needs. In the present study, square jets were evaluated to determine their effectiveness in providing aeration efficiency by plunging jets in an open channel flow. The study seeks to add to the existing knowledge and provide insight into the performance of single and multiple square plunging jets in wastewater treatment plants. Passing a water sample from the pool through an open channel, via square water jet(s), has shown that variables such as a higher number of jets, and discharge have a significant impact on aeration efficiency (E20). The findings demonstrate that the increase in E20 was found to be 85.22% to 117.6% with Nj=64 over the single jet when discharge was varied from 3.41L/s to 4.75L/s, further affirming the remarkable effectiveness of plunging jets in promoting aeration in open channel flows. Furthermore, it was observed that Fr. No. is the parameter that has the most impact on calculating E20 with correlation of 0.95311.

Jet aeration is a commonly used technique for introducing air into water during wastewater treatment. In this investigation, the efficacy of different soft computing models, namely, Random Forest, Reduced Error Pruning Tree, Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Gaussian Process, and Support Vector Machine, was examined in predicting the aeration efficiency (E 20 ) of circular and square jet configurations in an open channel flow. A total of 126 experimental data points were utilized to develop and validate these models. To assess the models' performance, three goodness-of-fit parameters were employed: correlation coefficient (CC), root-mean-square error (RMSE), and mean absolute error (MAE). The analysis revealed that all of the developed models exhibited predictive capabilities, with CC values surpassing 0.8. Nonetheless, when it comes to predicting E 20 , the ANN model outperformed other soft computing models, achieving a CC of 0.9748, MAE of 0.0164, and RMSE of 0.0211. A sensitivity analysis emphasized that the angle of inclination exerted the most significant influence on the aeration in an open channel. Furthermore, the results demonstrated that square jets delivered superior aeration compared to that of circular jets under identical operating conditions.

Groundwater quality in Noida and Ghaziabad has been decreasing in recent years as a result of industrial operations and pollution. The primary goal of the present work is to investigate the groundwater quality indicators in the various key locations of Noida and Ghaziabad. Different physico-chemical characteristics of groundwater in these locations were investigated in order to quantify the influence of these parameters on the environment in general and human health in particular. pH, total dissolved solids (TDS), Alkalinity, chemical oxygen demand (COD), biological oxygen demand (BOD), total hardness, carbonates, bicarbonates, turbidity and chlorides were measured. pH, TDS, alkalinity, hardness, and chloride content were found to be 7.35-9.05, 0-30 mg/l, 140-975 mg/l, 170-335 mg/l, and 39.90-939.70 mg/l respectively. The acquired results were compared to the permitted limits set by the Indian water quality standard IS:10500-2012 and recommendations were made to improve the water quality of the study region in order to make the groundwater suitable for consumption.
