Study on molecular mechanism of volatiles variation during Bupleurum scorzonerifolium root development based on metabolome and transcriptome analysis

Abstract: Bupleurum scorzonerifolium Willd. is a medicinal herb. Its root has a high content of volatile oil (BSVO), which shows a variety of biological activities. Currently, BSVO in the injectable form is used for treating fever in humans and livestock. The yield and quality of volatile oils depends on the developmental stages of plants. However, the changes in BSVO yield and quality during root development in Bupleurum scorzonerifolium and the underlying molecular regulatory mechanisms remain unclear. This knowledge … Show more

“…In the Chinese tradition, B. scorzonerifolium Willd contains a high content of volatile oil, which gives it a strong odor and is called "XiangChaihu" [21]. Our results show that the volatile oil content of B. scorzonerifolium Willd and its wild species was the highest among all the samples, which was consistent with the results of Yu and Chen et al [21,22]. In our results, the relative contents of lauraldehyde, α-pinene, β-pinene, and sabinene in BsR and BsR_W were significantly higher than other samples.…”
