Study on Mechanical Behaviors of Wedge-Ring Connection Structure with Deformable Contact under Uniaxial Tension Load

Abstract: In this paper, the distribution characteristics of deformation of and stress in a wedge-ring connection structure are studied by experiments and FE numerical simulations. In the established FE model, all contact surfaces are of deformable and frictional contact relations. A few uniaxial tension experiments are implemented on a MTS810 Material Test Machine. The strains are recorded using resistance strain gages, the in-surface displacements and off-surface displacements are measured using laser holography, and … Show more

“…The axial stresses on the outer surface in the joint of the lower cylinder are pressure stresses, as shown in Fig. 10, and those on the inner surface in the joint of the upper cylinder from axial position 145 mm to 158 mm are also pressure ones, which are well fit with the experimental measurement data and the numerical simulated results obtained by a 3D friction contact FE model [6]. The local flexural deformation in the region nearby the ringed-rabbet of the lower cylinder or of the upper one arises from the axial counterforce imposed by the wedged-ring.…”

“…The wedged-ring dimensions and fillet radius were determined as design variables, and the maximum stress ratio was selected as the objective function to establish the optimization mathematics model. Zhao et al [6,7] studied the mechanical behaviors of wedged-ring joint structure with deformable contact under uniaxial tension loads using experimental and FE stress analysis method, and gave a dynamical model update based on the experimental modes and sensitivity analysis of structural parameters.…”

“…To prevent the two strips from relaxing, a proper block is filled between the strips' ends. And to make the whole surface smooth, the hole is sealed by a cover plate [3] . Besides two cylinders and two strips, the sample also comprises a flange at the bottom and a loading plate at the top which are used to install and load the sample.…”
