Study on Intelligent Communication Module for Programmable Logic Controller

Abstract: This paper gives a new design for Ethernet/IP Intelligent Communication Modules (EIICM). The new EIICM module not only acts as the network communication module for the PLCs to facilitate the communications between the PLCs and the remote network devices, but also it acts as the CPU of the built-in operation switch to perform the network topology monitoring and maintenance, IGMP Snooping, and switch managing and diagnosing. Furthermore, it acts as an Ethernet/IP and MB/TCP end device to provide implicit and exp… Show more

“…First, we delve into the results of our data transfer experiments, carefully examining metrics such as data transfer rates, latency, and error rates. This analysis provides valuable insights into the efficiency and reliability of data transfer within the LS Electric system [10,34]. Secondly, we examine the intricate workings of the trigger activation and coil control mechanisms within the system, shedding light on their responsiveness and their key role in ensuring seamless and efficient communication between the various system components.…”

“…They have emphasized the significance of a standardized application layer that allows for interoperability, ensuring universal compatibility and real-time control across Ethernet TCP/IP [5]. A fresh design has been developed for EIP Intelligent Communication Modules (EIICM) [10] utilized in industrial Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). The EIICM serves as a network communication module, a CPU for the operation switch, and provides messaging services.…”

“…Redundancy in network interface cards is very important as it represents the industrial backbones: such cards together with their communication protocol (Modbus TCP [3], EtherNet/IP [4], PROFINET [5], PROFIBUS [6], RAPIENET [7], EtherCAT [8], CC-Link IE [9]), offer short cycle time for data transmission. Various updates were made in time, for example, CC-Link IE Field [10] built on top of Gigabit Ethernet and CC-Link IE TSN (time-sensitive network) which offer flexible network topology (ring, line, and star) [11].…”
