Study on hydrogeochemical connection and water quality assessment of subsidence lake and shallow groundwater in Luling coal-mining area of the Huaibei coalfield, Eastern China

Abstract: The surface water from subsidence lake and shallow groundwater play an important role for agriculture, industry and local communities in coal mining areas. The connection between two type water and quality, however, remains unclear. In this study, 37 samples were collected from subsidence lake and shallow groundwater around Luling coal mine. The hydrogeochemisty data and formation mechanisms were analyzed to reveal the connection proof. Compared with shallow groundwater, the surface water from subsidence lake … Show more

“…According to the comparison shown in Figure 2 , the variation in anion concentration was more severely influenced by the environment ( Yang et al, 2020 ; Yuan Y. et al, 2020 ; Xu et al, 2022 ). Cl – concentration was high in both the coastal and arid zones due to the presence of seawater intrusion in the coastal zone and evaporation in the arid zone ( Idowu et al, 2022 ; Yin et al, 2022 ).…”

“…The basin is long and strip-shaped, broad in the west and narrow in the east, with well-exposed central outcrops and rock formations from the Paleoproterozoic-Neoproterozoic and Quaternary systems covering the eastern and western ends. The area has few internal faults, but positive regional defects are present along the southern edge with a north-east trend, a south-east tendency, and a steep dip [21]. In this excellent field, fracture structures are infrequent, and a few high-angle faults facing the north-east exist.…”

“…To date, research on the chemical field of groundwater in Huaibei coalfield has mainly focused on the hydrochemical characteristics of primary aquifer, isotopic geochemical characteristics, groundwater cycle tracing, element pollution degree and health risk assessment (Gui & Chen 2016;Gui et al , 2017Lin et al 2016;Wang et al 2019;Xu et al 2022), while there are few studies on hydrogeochemistry under the disturbance of large-scale water inrush accidents and their treatment projects.…”
