“…The observed pH in this study is within the range of 6.5-9.1, earlier reported for the same landfill in 1999 (Mwiganga & Kansiime, 2005). This pH agrees well with the range reported by previous studies where soils at landfills have been reported to have high pH ranging from 7.4 to 10.4 (Adjia et al, 2008;Agbeshie et al, 2020;Beyene & Banerjee, 2011;Liu et al, 2013;Mwiganga & Kansiime, 2005;Pratheba et al, 2020). The high pH of these soils is probably due to the high content of exchangeable bases and ammonium at WDS resulting from the breakdown of organic material under anaerobic conditions.…”
