Study on Dust-Retention Ability of Major Afforestation Tree Species in New Industrial Zone

Abstract: Dust pollution has become one of the major problems that impact unban environment. While urban vegetation plays an important role in improving the urban atmospheric environment. This study conducted a preliminary research on the dust-retention ability of 20 greening tree species, by field sampling investigating and laboratory analyzing. The 20 greening tree species in Tianjin Airport Economic Area, a new industrial zone of Tianjin, were taken as research object. The results of the study show that: (1) the dust… Show more

“…rubrum were the most abundant among all shrubs studied. The dust retention capacity of different plants varied (Li et al, 2015;Wang et al, 2015;Sun et al, 2017;Wu et al, 2017). In this study, we selected sample areas with different con gurations of trees, shrubs, and herbs with high, medium, and low relative abundance on Xianlin Avenue.…”

“…The soil quality can be used as an indicative factor to measure the ability of soil to provide good environmental conditions for vegetation growth and development, and it is a comprehensive reflection of soil physical and chemical properties and biological properties (Schoenholtz et al, 2000;Jaurixje et al, 2013). As a highly concerned means of ecological restoration, the afforestation can play a role in preventing wind and sand fixation, reducing water and soil loss, enhancing land productivity and improving the ecological environment (Akca et al, 2010;Berthrong et al, 2009;Chen et al, 2008;Wang et al, 2014). There are more studies on the mutual relation between afforestation and soil characteristic change and few studies on the impact of different afforestation methods on soil properties.…”
