Study on Direct Chill Continuous Casting of 3003/4004 Clad Slab

Abstract: The 3003/4004 clad slabs are prepared by direct chill continuous casting. The microstructures on the interface are investigated by optical and scanning electron microscopes, chemical composition distributions across the interface are detected by EPMA, and tensile strengths are evaluated by MTS NEW-810 Materials Test System. The results show that 3003 alloy and 4004 alloy are metallurgical bonding on the interface on the interface, which is results from fusion and diffusion bonding. The thickness of diffusion l… Show more

“…This is because CeO 2 can promote the high fluidity and uniform distribution of alloying elements in the molten pool and inhibit the occurrence of segregation. [17][18][19]. In the meantime, thermal treatment provides energy for the strengthening effect of CeO 2 on the microstructure, and further acts on the element distribution, so that the elements are evenly distributed in the coating.…”

“…In Figure 2, the grain morphology on both sides of FZ has great differences. Grains in the right region were equiaxed grains with a grain aspect ratio close to 1 and had the morphology of as-cast microstructure, [20][21][22] which meant that this zone was the 3A21 cladding layer. In the 3A21 cladding layer, grains near FZ were relatively fine and their mean diameter was approximately 30 mm, while grains away from FZ were coarse significantly and their mean diameter was about 60 mm.…”
