Study on Designing Sulfur Containing Bifunctional Building Block with Improved Refractive Index

Abstract: Sulfur and chlorine containing bifunctional diols with C-S bond has been prepared starting from chloroepoxy alkane and thioalcohol. The studies of FTIR, TLC, HPLC and NMR have been used to understand the reaction mechanism, as well as for optimization of the reaction parameters. The reaction is highly exothermic and the effect of temperature, rate of addition of reagents and reaction time are important factors affecting the formation of diol. Viscosity studies, HPLC, FTIR, NMR and acid number studies have show… Show more

“…The stretching bands at 3423 and 1102 cm À1 can be assigned to hydroxyl (OH) and ether (C-O-C) groups [40], indicating successful grafting of PEGMA. The absorption peaks at 801 and 950 cm À1 assigned to epoxy ring stretching demonstrate the presence of GMA on the brush-SNPs [41]. The band at 1731 cm À1 is ascribed to the stretching of carbonyl group (C@O) [42], which exists in both PEGMA and GMA.…”

“…The stretching bands at 3423 and 1102 cm -1 can be assigned to hydroxyl (OH) and ether (C-O-C) groups168 respectively, indicating successful grafting of PEGMA. The absorption peaks at 801 and 950 cm -1 , assigned to epoxy ring stretching, demonstrate the presence of GMA on the brush-SNPs169 . The band at 1731 cm -1 is ascribed to the stretching of carbonyl group (C=O)170 , which exists in both PEGMA and GMA.…”
