Study on Catalyzed Tungstophosphoric Acid oxidation of p-Chloro Benzhydrol and p-Methyl Benzhydrol by N-Bromoisonicotinamide in Aqueous Acetic Acid Medium

Abstract

Tungstophosphoric acid catalyzed kinetics of oxidation of p-chloro and pmethyl benzhydrols by N-bromoisonicotinamide (NBIN) in aqueous acetic acid medium have been carried out. The oxidation kinetics of p-chloro and p-methyl benzhydrols by N-bromoisonicotinamide (NBIN) in presence of TPA (Tungstophosphoric acid) shows a first order dependence on [NBIN], [TPA] and fractional order on [substrate]. The variation of ionic strength, added concentrations of salts viz. KCl and NaCl, H + and isonicotinamide (reaction product) have insignificant effect on reaction rate. Activation parameters for the reaction have been evaluated from Arrhenius plot by studied the reaction at different temperatures.
