Study of Ultrathin Films of P3HT/PCBM by Means of Highly Sensitive Absorption Spectroscopy

Abstract: Ultrathin films of P3HT and P3HT/PCBM prepared on glass and ITO glass substrates by spin-coating were studied by means of highly sensitive absorption spectroscopy. For pristine P3HT films, we discuss the morphology and electronic structure at the interface between the substrate and the P3HT layer. For P3HT/PCBM films, we found that phase separation could be controlled by changing the concentration of the solutions used to prepare the films.

“…The thickness of the P3HT layer, calculated using the absorbance and absorption coefficient of the P3HT films, was approximately 80100 nm. 58 As previously reported, 59 the photocurrent value from the P3HT film of the active layer in the OSCs increased with an increase in the thickness of the P3HT layer, up to approximately 100 nm.…”

“…Absorption spectra of the dye-sensitized nanocrystalline films were measured with a conventional absorption spectrometer (V-670, JASCO). Because absorption by the dye-sensitized single crystals was weak (<10 – 3), we used a highly sensitive homemade absorption spectrometer that is similar to an instrument described previously . A 40 W halogen lamp was used as the light source.…”

Monochromatic light obtained with a monochromator (SP-150, Acton) was transmitted through the sample placed on a motorized linear stage controlled with a computer.…”
