Study of Turbulence Promoters in Prolonging Membrane Life

Abstract: Nanofiltration membrane technology is an effective method for secondary treated sewage purification. However, membrane fouling, which is inevitable in the membrane-separation process, can reduce membrane performance and shorten membrane life. Installing a turbulence promoter is a promising means of improving the hydraulic conditions inside the membrane chamber. In this study, the effect of turbulence promoter on prolonging membrane life was studied for the first time. Flat-sheet polyethersulfone nanofiltration… Show more

“…In order to alleviate membrane fouling, some methods based on fluid dynamics 3 have been adopted by adding a turbulence enhancer, 4 aeration, 5 stirring module, 6 vibratory, 7 rotary membrane module, 8 or rotary membrane disk 9 into the membrane reactor. The submerged membrane stirred reactor reduces membrane fouling by shear of liquid/slurry flow caused by impeller rotation.…”
