Study of three‐point bending behaviors of composite sandwich structure with re‐entrant honeycomb cores

Abstract: The composite re‐entrant honeycomb structures were fabricated by hot pressing and bonding processes in this article. The bending responses of composite re‐entrant honeycomb structure under three‐point bending load were studied experimentally. The bending deformation, failure process and failure load were analyzed and discussed. The influence of wall thickness gradient form which were less reported on the bending behaviors of composite re‐entrant honeycomb structures was investigated. The gradient distributions… Show more

“…Varying the wall thickness of the re-entrant unit cell was performed in a positive or negative order (Xu et al, 2023). It has been found that the negative gradient re-entrant core showed improved impact resistance, reduced transverse shear deformation (Liu et al, 2023a(Liu et al, , 2023cShao et al, 2021) and better energy absorption (Liu et al, 2023c). Another category of gradient core was used by researchers, which was the size gradient.…”

“…Lightweight, wave-transmitted, thermal-insulated, and high-strength composites have always been a hot spot in the research, because they have a widespread needs and broad application potential in aerospace, military, marine, and transportation fields. [1][2][3] The design of lightweight structures, such as honeycomb sandwich panel, [4][5][6] corrugated sandwich plate, 7,8 and foam sandwich panel, 9,10 is one of the most effective methods to obtain lightweight and high-strength composites. In recent years, numerous researches have been conducted on the sandwich structural composites.…”

“…(2) Large in-plane deformation: Currently considered in-plane deformation range is: 20 of swept back angle, 200% of span chord ratio, and 50% of wing area. 12 (3) Out-of-plane load carrying capacity [13][14][15] : Resistance to aerodynamic loads is required to prevent deformation and damage to the airfoil during flight. (4) Recyclable 8 : Able to be used stably for a certain period to enhance the reliability of morphing aircraft.…”
