Study of the temperature-induced aggregation of polyoxometalate-poly(N,N-diethylacrylamide) hybrids in water

Abstract: ABSTRACT. In this article, we study the temperature-induced phase transition of aqueous solutions of tailor-made Dawson polyoxometalate-poly(N,N-diethylacrylamide) hybrids (POMPDEAAm) by means of differential scanning calorimetry, dynamic light scattering and cryo-TEM microscopy. Generally, the typical thermoresponsive aggregation of the PDEAAm in water was transferred to the hybrids. The organization of the compounds in solution below and above the transition temperature was studied, and precious insights in … Show more

“…Therefore, the aggregation of charged copolymer chains was much easier than that of homopolymer. The same results were noted in the study by Hayde et al [35] and Andre et al [36]. On the other hand, as the temperature increased from 25 to 45 • C, the D H of polymer and copolymer decreased dramatically because the coil-to-globule transition behavior occurred revealing a typical thermally induced aggregation [37].…”

“…LCST is determined as the onset temperature of the endothermic peak. 24 The thermograms are shown in Supporting Information Figure S1. LCSTs of NI100 and NI400 are 37.46 and 32.798C, respectively, while they reduce to 33.898C in CSNI100 and 31.298C in CSNI400.…”

“…We studied in more depth the behavior of the POM-PDEAAm hybrids in water. [1,8] The POM-PDEAAm hybrids at 20 °C contain unimers and microgeltype swollen aggregates. Heating led to phase transition caused by the cleavage of hydrogen bonds.…”
