Study of the Sealing Characteristic of Polytetrafluoroethylene-Coated O-Ring Applied in Gas-Tight Deep-Sea Water Sampler

Abstract: In ocean science research, it often requires the integrity of the gas content in samples of seawater. The gas-tight deep-sea water sampler (GTWS) based on pressure self-adaptive equalizer (PSAE) can satisfy the requirement very well. The PSAE is required to achieve a reliable dynamic sealing in deep sea. The general O-ring is difficult to meet this requirement. The polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)-coated O-ring is chosen as the sealing parts. The finite element analysis (FEA) software ANSYS is used to analyze th… Show more

“…However, the linear elastic model they adopted was not suitable for the seal materials. Later, Huang et al used the hyperelastic material model in the finite element analysis software ANSYS to accurately analyse the stress state of the piston seals used in the deep sea water samplers, which had a sealing system similar to that of wet‐mate connectors. They evaluated the sealing performance by calculating the maximum contact pressure and found that the PTFE‐coated O‐ring was better than the ordinary Viton O‐ring.…”

“…Use augmented lagrange Materials Processing Technology II formula as the method of finite element analysis. In order to simulate the internal oil pressure, load pressure from 0MPa to 0.05MPa onto the beneath surface of the film, which is divided into 40 steps linearly [14]. We draw the simulation results of the stress and strain of the titanium film under the internal pressure shown in Fig 5a and 5b, we can conclude that the connection part of the film with the hood of the titanium film has the maximum stress and strain.…”
