Study of the scaling properties in SU(2) gauge theory with eight flavors

Abstract: We present our preliminary study of the SU(2) gauge theory with 8 flavors of fermions in fundamental representation. This theory could be a candidate of the gauge theory with conformal fixed point. By using Wilson/Polyakov loop in a finite volume with twisted boundary conditions, we study the renormalization group flow of the gauge coupling constant. Our calculation gives consistent result with the perturbative prediction of the running coupling in the weak coupling region. We investigate a possible signal for… Show more

“…A natural choice to approach N (c) f , therefore, is N f = 8. There have been some studies of SU(2) gauge theory with N f = 8 [2,3], but no concrete conclusion was made for the existence of an infrared fixed point.…”

“…Systematic investigation of some of these theories has been carried out in [4][5][6][7][8]. For few flavors the theory is expected to be QCD-like and this is confirmed by the simulations as well as the existence of a fixed point for ten flavors compatibly with perturbation theory.…”
