Study of the reaction of interaction of tetracyan ethylene with 1,1‐diphenyl ethylene and its dimers by electronic spectroscopy

Abstract

The problems of initiation in the cationic polymerization of vinylic monomers are discussed. The absorption bands were identified in a model system with participation of 1,l-diphenyl ethylene and its dimers and tetracyan ethylene was disclosed. The absorption bands in the region of 400 nm observed with the reaction system with participation of l-methyl-l,3,3-triphenyl indan and tetracyan ethylene and a t 388 nm and 524 nm with the system of 1,1,3,3-tetraphenyl butene-I and tetracyan ethylene were identified as absorption bands of charge transfer complexes. Conclusions are drawn to the mechanism of dimerization of 1,l-diphenyl ethylene in the presence of Lewis acid. Die Absorptionsbanden wurden identifiziert, und ein Modellsystem unter Beteiligung von 1,1-Diphenylethylen und seinen Dimeren sowie Tetracyanethylen wurde erschlossen. Die Absorptionsbanden im Gebiet um 400 nm, die bei der Reaktion unter Teilnahme von l-Methyl-1,3,3-trimethyl-indan und Tetracyanethylen beobachtet werden, sowie die Banden bei 388 nm und 524 nm im System 1,1,3,3-Tetraphenyl-buten-I mit Tetracyanethylen wurden als Absorptionsbanden von Charge-transfer-Komplexen identifiziert. Daraus konnte auf den Mechanismus der Dimerisation von 1,l-Diphenylethylen in Gegenwart einer Lewissaure geschlossen werden.
