Study of the reactionpp→pπ+n with polarized beam from 1.18 to 1.98 GeV/c

Abstract: We present density-matrix elements and single-spin correlations for the reaction p , p -p~+ n at 1.18, 1.47, 1.71, and 1.98 GeV/c, using both longitudinal and transverse beam polarizations. For the p , p -h + + n subprocess we find quite different energy dependence for the helicity-i and helicity-+ A+ + -production asymmetries. The helicity-f asymmetry has pi,, dependence similar to the polarization in p,p-.ntd, while the helicity-4 asymmetry changes sign between 1.18 and 1.47 GeV/c. By fitting the production … Show more

“…The pp → ppπ 0 total cross section is known [18], but more resonances with non-isotropic behavior are involved. For instance, the pion scattering angle distribution θ ∆ π in the NN → N∆ → NNπ reaction has been found by bubble chamber experiments to be in disagreement to one-pion exchange [19].…”

“…For the ∆ and N * production the strong forwardbackward peaking of the polar angle distribution has been taken into account [25,26]. For the distribution of θ ∆ π the measured coefficient [19] was used. In addition, the influence of applying a pure one-pion exchange model has been evaluated.…”
