Study of the occurrence and ecosystem danger of selected endocrine disruptors in the urban water cycle of the city of Bogotá, Colombia

Abstract: Endocrine disruptors have been studied for their high occurrence in different environments including aquatic; however, in the context of developing countries, their occurrence, magnitude and potential threat have little information. This study involved the analysis of various components of the urban water cycle in the city of Bogotá, Colombia. As a result, it was found that the compounds with the highest occurrence are plasticizers such as phthalates and bisphenol A, whereas among the drugs, carbamazepine pres… Show more

“…Environmental risk assessment for EDCs is a crucial issue in toxicological, biological and epidemiological disciplines (Bedoya-Ríos et al, 2017). EDCs are exogenous pollutants that enter the environment through human activities, and they have the potential to bioaccumulate in humans and wildlife (Gorelick et al, 2014).…”

“…United States (Li, 2018) First-Tier Risk Quotient (RQ) Approach Aquatic Ecosystems Bangladesh (Sumon et al, 2018) Toxicity Units Aquatic Ecosystems Ghana (Affum et al, 2018) ChimERA fate Shallow Aquatic Ecosystems Italy (Morselli et al, 2018) Although there have been studies on the presence and monitoring of organophosphorus pesticides in aquatic ecosystems in latitudes close to the tropics (Carro et al, 2012;Singare, 2016;Huang, Tornero-Velez and Barzyk, 2017;Bedoya-Ríos et al, 2018;Moncaleano-Niño et al, 2018), it is necessary to do more research about the dynamic, and impact of the OPPs, because in equatorial regions like Colombia, due to its distinctive climatological conditions processes such as occurrence, distribution and fate of organophosphorus compounds as Chlorpyrifos and its degradation products are still poorly known (61).…”

“…The main source of contamination in the Magdalena and Cauca basins is wastewater from the main cities Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, and Barranquilla (Galvis and Mojica 2007;Tejeda-Benitez et al 2016). In these cities, some research has been carried out on the content of PPCPs in the waters, nding that the greatest contribution of pharmaceutical products is non-steroidal anti-in ammatory drugs, anticonvulsants, and antibiotics (Gracia-Lor et al 2012;Hernández et al 2015;Aristizabal-Ciro et al 2017;Bedoya-Ríos et al 2018;Arias 2019;Pemberthy et al 2020).…”
