Study of the kinetics of the recrystallization of cold-rolled low-carbon steel

Abstract: The suitability of the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) technique for the quantitative study of the recrystallization process in cold-rolled steels is demonstrated, the recrystallization kinetics was described with a semiempirical model, and the transformation of a cold-rolled steel submitted to an industrial-batch thermal cycle was appropriately simulated. It was found that the activation energy for the recrystallization process depends on the heating-rate range, having values of 522 Ϯ 13 and 259 Ϯ 12 … Show more

“…Torres et alii (Torres et al, 2002) mostraram que a energia de ativação aparente durante a recristalização isócrona de um aço baixo carbono laminado a frio diminuiu de 520 para 259 kJ/mol quando a taxa de aquecimento era aumentada. Singh et alii (Singh et al, 2007) modelaram a transformação não isotérmica da austenita em ferrita em aços baixo carbono e mostraram que a energia de ativação aparente diminuiu quanto era aumentada a taxa de resfriamento.…”

“…However, SEM of the fractured surfaces revealed the presence of some obstacles such as cavities or carbides. The general low mechanical properties of the samples annealed at 750 o C could be attributed to intense spherodization of cementite in pearlite followed by recrystallization of α -ϒ grains [12,14].…”

“…The high magnification analysis by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) can only provide the information of dislocation density to recognize recovery stage. Alternatively, various methods have been introduced for indirect monitoring of recovery and recrystallization process, correlating to the change in the bulk properties, such as tensile strength [2], hardness [3], phase intensity [4], resistivity [5], thermal enthalpy [6], magnetic coercive field [7,8] etc. Amongst these techniques, the magnetic properties are determined on the non-destructive principle with a short response of time, leading to their applications for material evaluation at remote places during material processing as well as structural health monitoring [9].…”
