Study of the intermittent plasma structure around the divertor simulation experimental module in GAMMA 10/PDX

Abstract: We have investigated the generation region of intermittent plasma structures, which could be due to the blob-like cross field transport around the divertor simulation experimental module (D-module) in the tandem mirror device GAMMA 10/PDX. A positive skewness of the ion saturation current was clearly seen when the electrode of the movable probe was located at the radial edge and just in front of the entrance limiter of the D-module. Fourier analysis and conditional averaging clarified that positive spikes inte… Show more

“…The detached recombination process was simulated using the fluid simulation code LINDA considering collisional radiative dielectric recombination [38]. The complex detaching plasma transport was modeled using the feedback instability in the plasma density and the effect of the magnetic flux [39]. A toroidal configuration was tested for detaching plasma at the vacuum vessel wall by cooling the electron temperature as high-density plasma is transported along long spiral magnetic fields [40][41][42][43].…”

“…Currently, only a few devices are available to simulate the divertor parameters or heat load in an ITERlike manner, e.g., Magnum-PSI, [2][3][4] Proto-MPEX, [9,10] and GAMMA10/PDX. [13,14] Recently, HIT-PSI, a linear plasma device with tesla magnetic confinement, has been developed at the Harbin Institute of Technology, [15] as depicted in Fig. 1.…”

“…Similar phenomena were also observed in RF plasma sources, PANTA, 19) VINETA 20,21) and in the loss-cone of the GAMMA10/PDX mirror machine. 22) Early stages of these are reviewed in Ref. 23.…”
