Study of the energy use of resilient settlements in Hungary

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the household energy consumption of the most resilient Hungarian cities. For the selection we use the results of the Complex Resilience Index calculated for 2000, 2006, 2012 and 2018. We assume that resilience should also be reflected in residential energy consumption, with the effect of price changes being smaller in municipalities with higher Complex Resilience Index values. To measure the spatial inequalities, the range ratio, range, relative range, dual index, standard deviation, relative standard deviation, absolute average difference are calculated. The shifts and changes highlight some peculiarities of the Hungarian urban network. In the case of the examined cities, significant inequalities and large spatial variances have not been revealed regarding the indicators of urban energy consumption (i.e., average household gas and electricity consumption). However, in spite of some positive tendencies it can be concluded that the energy transition is slow, and the gas still plays a significant role in household heating.
